Wheelchair Basketball Paralympics

Although it's still one of the most popular sports in the world, not many people know that athletes with physical disabilities may participate in basketball.

Wheelchair basketball is actually played in more than 100 countries at the moment, and teams from France, the United States, Great Britain, and other countries will compete in the sport in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

Originally intended to aid in the rehabilitation of injured soldiers and their ability to decompress, wheelchair basketball was created.

Wheelchair basketball originated as a result of the physically challenged athletes' need to utilise wheelchairs to go around the court.

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation claims that wheelchair basketball was invented in 1945 in the US between two hospitals.

According to the International Paralympic Committee, wheelchair basketball was created in the United States in 1946 by World War II veterans who had sustained injuries.

The majority were formerly fit players who wished to carry on with the game.
